Jeanie Marie Buss is an American businesswoman from the United States. She is the President and controlling owner of Los Angeles Lakers in the National Basketball Association. Buss is a native of California and grew up as part of a rich family. Jerry Buss, her father was a successful entrepreneur in real estate who became owner of Lakers Sports and Entertainment. When her parents split in 1972 and she started to feel as if she was abandoned. Her family's business was started when she was 19 as general manager for the Los Angeles Strings tennis team. The team was later renamed an organization called the Los Angeles Blades, a professional roller-hockey team. Before becoming vice president for the Lakers She was also the president of Great Western Forum. Her father died in 2013, and his control over ownership for the Lakers was passed on to Buss as well as her siblings via a trust for the family which gave each sibling an equal vote. She was named president of Los Angeles Lakers. Buss was also a partner in the ownership of Women of Wrestling (a Los Angeles-based pro-wrestling organization).
